I live in Brownstown with my husband of many years. We raise a garden in the summer and I can vegetables. I am a retired teacher. I have recently been certified in SilverSneakers which I take very seriously. The people in the class are very sweet and appreciate the exercises. We laugh at my missteps. It is very rewarding. I love what I am doing. I have taken yoga classes and the senior classes here and done exercises in the gym. I am an avid walker (I go very fast but I don't jog). My goal is to inspire as many people as I can to be as active as they can for as long as we can.

rsz_margaret_cook

I am a certified group exercise instructor through the nationally recognized AFAA (Athletics and Fitness Association of America) in 2014 and certified as a SilverSneakers instructor in 2015. I really enjoy teaching the Senior Fitness classes offered for free at Flat Rock Community Center. My main purpose as an instructor is to inspire fitness for those who think they are too old or out of shape to begin to make a change in their lives through exercise. Fitness can be accomplished with consistent effort over time. I feel we are all a work in progress no matter our age. We can take charge of our lives and achieve our goals by seeing the possibilities in life and working towards them one small step at a time. Exercise helps focus the mind and keeps you on track to become your best self.

Rosealee
Teaches: Step & Strength, 20/20/20, Ballet Barre, Total Body Conditioning

I have always loved group fitness! In high school I was on the cross country team. As soon as I turned 18, I signed up in a gym. In my 20's, I loved going to step class, hi/low aerobics, strengthening classes, personal training, and working out in the gym with friends. It has always been a joy of mine to work out with a group; it keeps me motivated and is so much fun! I was asked in my 20's to become an instructor, but working full time and attending college full time did not allow for it. Then in January of 2015 I decided I would go for it! Through the American Council on Exercise (ACE), I earned my first group fitness instructor certification in June 2015. It took me several months of studying and a long and difficult test, but I passed with flying colors and couldn't wait to get started! I started teaching group fitness (step class, of course) in September 2015, and I started working at the FRCC December of that year. It has been an amazing experience, and I deeply enjoy creating choreography, class programming, and getting sweaty with a room full of people! It's hard to say which class is my favorite, but if I had to choose I'd say step and ballet barre. But honestly, I love teaching them all! Being a group fitness instructor has given me an immense creative outlet, and I am so appreciative for all the participants in my classes.
